Gas supplies to Slovakia ensured for upcoming winter

Natural gas supplies to Slovakia for the upcoming winter have been ensured, Slovak economy minister Peter Ziga confirmed on Tuesday after meeting with gas utilities representatives.
"We can state that Slovakia is prepared for the heating season, and citizens can be calm. We are prepared, within our possibilities, for a smooth supply of the population and industry with gas if supplies from the Russian Federation were to be suspended," stated Ziga.
Ziga pointed to the fact that following the so-called gas crisis in 2009, Slovakia only had one gas entry point into its territory, particularly in Velke Kapusany in the Eastern Slovakia, but now it has several.
"Today I can state that we have three more entry points in addition to Kapusany, for example, from the Czech Republic in Lanzhot, from Austria in Baumgarten and one more from Hungary. Within these transition points, we are able to import gas not just from the Russian Federation," specified Ziga.
He also reported that that Slovakia's gas storage capacities had increased and gas storage in Velke Bojanovice in the Czech Republic was available to Slovakia, too. Endit
