Italy remains under migratory pressure in November: Frontex

Xinhua, December 10, 2016 Adjust font size:

Migrants arriving in Italy fell by half in November, but the country remained under high level of migratory pressure, said Frontex, the European Border and Coast Guard Agency, in a press release Friday.

A total of 13,740 migrants arrived in Italy last month, almost half the number of arrivals in October. However, the figure was still more than four times the total recorded in November 2015.

According to Frontex, in the first 11 months of the year, more than 173,000 migrants were detected on the central Mediterranean route to Europe, nearly a fifth more than in the same period of 2015.

Nationals of Nigeria and Guinea accounted for the largest number of the rescued migrants last month. Endit
