Iran's army to start major drill on Sunday: commander

Xinhua, December 9, 2016 Adjust font size:

The Iranian Army's ground forces will stage a major military maneuver in the southeastern parts of the country in the following days with the aim of boosting their combat readiness, Press TV reported quoting a senior Iranian military commander as saying on Friday.

The three-day drill will start on Sunday in an area of 200,000 square meters, said Brig. Gen. Kiomars Heidari, the Commander of the Iranian Army's ground forces.

"This maneuver will be staged at three tactical phases with the use of state-of-the-art equipment," Heidari said.

Some modern equipment, to be deployed in the upcoming drill, had been used in the previous drills but the Iranian ground forces have upgraded their quality and will study their new precision and range during the upcoming exercise, he added.

The army plans to test different techniques and tactics developed by young Iranian officers, he said, stressing that "the army's ground forces are responsible for maintaining the country's territorial integrity." Endit
