Hungary's farming output up 8.5 pct in 2016

Hungary's agricultural output was up by 8.5 percent in 2016 year-on-year, while average prices for farm products declined by 2.9 percent, the Central Statistical Office reported on Friday in a preliminary estimate.

Therefore, that the value produced by the sector rose by 5.3 percent, the report added.

Calculating with constant prices, crop growing increased by 12.6 percent and stock keeping by 3.1 percent. Grain output climbed by 19.6 percent and industrial crops by 22.1 percent.

Livestock breeding improved by 3.9 percent while output of animal products was 1.2 percent higher. Poultry, hog, and cattle keeping were all up, as was dairy industry output.

Animal product prices, however, were down by 3.2 percent against 2015, so in current prices there was a 7.1 percent decline.

In all, the gross value added of the agricultural sector increased by 17.4 percent, according to the Central Statistical Office. Endit
