The Macedonian army is able to deal with future threats of a new refugee wave, Brigadier General of the joint operational command Zoran Mileski told President Gjorge Ivanov on Thursday.

Ivanov visited the Macedonian army and other security forces responsible for security at the state border, at the joint operational headquarters in Gevgelija which borders Greece, the President's press office said in a statement.

Ivanov was informed by Mileski on current situation at the Macedonian-Greek border and also on the daily actions taken by soldiers to prevent illegal crossings by migrants, it said.

Mileski also said that the army has already made operational plans and assessment of the number of security forces that would be needed in case of a new wave of refugees.

Macedonia had declared the state of emergency at its borders in August 2015 in the peak of the migrant crisis. The state of emergency will continue to be in place till June 30 of 2017. Endit
