Namibia to host desert festival at coastal resort

Xinhua, December 9, 2016 Adjust font size:

Namibia will host the International Beach and Cultural Festival on Dec. 24 and 25 at a coastal resort where "the desert meets the ocean."

Paula Olivier, media officer with the Namibia Tourism Board, said Thursday that the event would be held at the Langstrand Beach, a small beach resort on the Atlantic coast in the western part of the country.

Olivier said the festival would specifically focus on Namibia as a tourist destination.

According to her, the two-day festival will feature performance by local and global musicians and DJs, a beach volleyball and beach soccer tournament, a consumer expo and other entertainment activities such as camel rides, quad biking, dolphin cruises and helicopter rides.

"The world is invited to celebrate Christmas in the only country in the world where the desert meets the ocean," she said.

Meanwhile, she said that with a focus on responsible entertainment, the festival arena will be closed off with secure entrances and demarcated areas. Endite
