Nepal screening over 80 films at Kathmandu Intl Mountain Film Festival

Nepal is showcasing over 80 films in the 14th edition of the Kathmandu International Mountain Film Festival (KIMFF) that kicked off in the capital city on Thursday.

A total of 83 films from 26 countries are being screened in the five-day festival.

In addressing the event, Nepali Minister for Information and Communication Surendra Kumar Karki expressed the government's commitment to supporting the growth of Nepali film industry and such film festivals.

The festival is screening documentaries, fiction, short films and animations. Most of the stories revolve around issues related to mountain climbing, adventure sports, mountain cultures, lifestyles and environmental issues.

A total of 16 Nepali films, both fiction and non-fiction, are being showcased at the festival, the highest number of Nepali films that are screened in the festival since it was launched in 2007.

The opening day of the festival screened the Nepal premiere of the feature film White Sun. The Deepak-Rauniyar directorial has already made its significant presence in Venice International Festival and Cannes. It had also recently bagged the Best Film Awards at the Singapore International Film Festival. The film portrays a Nepal in the wake of the ten-year long Maoist insurgency.

In the next five days, KIMFF will screen feature films about post-conflict Nepal, climate change and nature, among other topics. The fiesta will conclude on December 12. Endit
