1st LD-Writethru: Officials suspended from duties after central China colliery blast

Xinhua, December 9, 2016 Adjust font size:

Several officials have been suspended from their duties after a deadly coal mine blast killed 11 miners in central China's Hubei Province, authorities said Thursday.

All 11 trapped miners were confirmed dead after rescuers retrieved the last two bodies on Wednesday night from Xinjia Coal Mine in Badong County.

Those that were relieved of their posts include officials in charge of the county's coal mine safety supervision and inspection, the local publicity department said.

They will be punished in accordance with the law after the investigation concludes, the department said.

Five managed to escape after the blast in the mine Monday night, but 11 were left trapped.

The cause of the accident is being investigated, and the Badong government has ordered a safety overhaul and production suspension of all mines in the county. Endi
