China on Thursday expressed condolences to victims of an earthquake in western Indonesia's Aceh province and conveyed sympathies to the injured and relatives of the victims.

"China will closely follow the situation and is ready to offer assistance to Indonesia according to their requirements," said Foreign Ministry spokesperson Lu Kang at a daily press briefing.

At least 97 people were killed and over 600 injured after the 6.5-magnitude quake hit Aceh province on Wednesday.

He said the Chinese consulate-general in Medan had launched emergency response, and reminded Chinese businesses and citizens there to take measures to stay safe. Endi
