Singapore's leaders have conveyed condolences on the Aceh quake to Indonesian President Joko Widodo, said the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) in a statement on Thursday.

President Tony Tan Keng Yam and Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong have respectively written to Jokowi, according to the statement.

President Tan offered his deepest condolences to the families of the victims of the earthquake in Pidie Jaya Regency, Aceh.

"Our thoughts and prayers are with the people of Indonesia during this difficult period," said Tan.

In his letter to Jokowi, PM Lee said he was "saddened" by the tragic loss of life and widespread damage in the catastrophe.

"Singapore stands ready to assist Indonesia in whatever way we can," Lee added.

A 6.4-magnitude quake hit Indonesia's Aceh on early Wednesday, killing at least 97 people and causing massive damages. Enditem
