The following are news highlights in Zambia's major media outlets on Wednesday.

--The United Nations Program on HIV/AIDS (UNAIDS) has commended Zambia for being the first country in eastern and southern Africa to document a success story on comprehensive sexuality education.

UNAIDS Country Representative Medhin Tsehaiu said the success story in comprehensive sexuality education has been documented in Zambia because the government has integrated the program into the school curriculum. She said integrating comprehensive sexuality education into the curriculum has shown that young people are being empowered. (Zambia Daily Mail)

--Doctors in Zambia and neighboring Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) have pledged to work together and help the prevention of HIV/AIDS along the borders.

The doctors from the two countries made the pledge after a joint meeting held in Nola city in the Copperbelt Province to share information and find ways of collaborating to end the transmission of HIV among key populations along the borders.

Copperbelt Provincial Medical Officer Consity Mwale said the collaboration between the two countries would ensure that key populations along the borders are not left in efforts aimed at eliminating HIV/AIDS. (Times of Zambia)

--Police in Zambia's Copperbelt Province are looking for a group of 16 criminals armed with explosives who are plotting to cause economic terror by trying to blow up key installations.

Copperbelt Police Commissioner Charity Katanga said the gang had tried to blow up installations belonging to the power utility after placing explosives under power pylons.

She said the police have stepped up efforts to arrest the group before it causes economic sabotage in the country. (Daily Nation)

--The Zambian government said it has no immediate plans to lift a ban restricting public vehicles from traveling at night despite opposition from stakeholders.

Last month, Zambia banned public vehicles from traveling between 9 p.m. and 5 a.m. as one way to reduce road traffic accidents but this has angered some stakeholders.

Minister of Transport and Communications Brian Mushimba said the decision would not be reversed until another solution to rampant road accidents is found. (The Mast) Endit
