China had a total of 3,062 websites dedicated to popular science at the end of 2015, an increase of 15.5 percent from the year before, according to the Ministry of Science and Technology Wednesday.

By the end of 2015, there were more than 1,250 exhibition centers and museums of science and technology nationwide, attracting more than 150 million visitors last year, according to the ministry.

About 2.05 million people work in popular science this year, an increase of 2.06 percent year on year, the ministry said.

In addition, a total of 14.1 billion yuan (about 2.1 billion U.S. dollars) was raised in the year to popularize science in the country, a 41.9 percent increase from 2010.

Government funding accounted for 75.5 percent of the amount, according to officials with the ministry's department of policies, regulations and supervision. Endit
