Xinhua, December 7, 2016 Adjust font size:

The Georgian Defense Ministry signed a framework agreement on security cooperation for 2016-2019 with the U.S. Department of Defense, according to the Georgian Defense Ministry on Tuesday.

The agreement, which is a supporting document to the memorandum on "deepening the defense and security partnership," signed between U.S. and Georgia in July, was signed by Georgian Defense Minister Levan Izoria and visiting U.S. Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense, Michael Carpenter in Tbilisi on Tuesday, said the Ministry in a statement.

"The three-year framework agreement on security cooperation outlines long-term tasks of bilateral cooperation, synchronizes planning of priorities and resources and promotes development of resolute defense capabilities," the Georgian Defense Ministry said.

It also said without elaborating the details that the document aims to strengthen defense capabilities of Georgian armed forces, establish effective and sustainable defense systems and enhance interoperability of Georgian troops with NATO. Enditem
