Albania to hold parliamentary elections on June 18

Xinhua, December 6, 2016 Adjust font size:

Albanian President Bujar Nishani issued a decree on Monday setting June 18, 2017 as the date when Albania will hold its parliamentary elections.

Albania will be electing 140 lawmakers for a four-year term and will have a new cabinet. The upcoming general elections are also deemed as a crucial point in terms of Albania's path towards European Union integration.

Over the last few years, political parties have demanded changes to the current electoral code but nothing has been done so far. Albania has not prepared a draft bill containing amendments to the electoral code based on international recommendations, media reported. Endit
