Nigeria donates food items to Nigerian refugees in Cameroon

Xinhua, December 4, 2016 Adjust font size:

The Nigerian government has delivered 1,460 bags of assorted food items to about 80,709 Nigerian refugees taking shelter in neighboring Cameroon, an official said Sunday.

The relief items, which included food and non-food items, were delivered to the refugees who fled the country due to attacks in restive northeast states, Muhammad Sani Sidi, the Director General of National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) said in a statement made available to Xinhua.

He said the items were meant to provide succor to the Nigerian refugees, noting that Nigeria will continue to liaise with Cameroon to ensure that all refugees are living in good condition.

Sani Sidi appealed to youths in the camps to desist from using drugs and urged them to always be of good character and be good ambassadors of Nigeria.

Some youths in the camp were recently arrested for drug use.

The director general assured the refugees that the government has not forgotten them and will do everything possible to evacuate them back to their respective states.

He commended the government of Cameroon, NGOs and the United Nations High Commission for Refugees for hosting and providing them with protection.

The Nigerians are taking shelter in Minawao and other locations in the far north region of Cameroon. Endit
