Nigeria wins 2016 Africa Women Cup of Nations

Nigerian national women's football team won the 10th Africa Women Cup of Nations (AFCON) after defeating Cameroon 1-0 in the final on Saturday in the Yaounde Ahmadou Ahidjo Stadium.

Cameroonian President Paul Biya attended the closing ceremony of the cup and watched the final match. Tens of thousands of Cameroonian fans were in the stadium to support the Cameroonian team.

The 8 teams who played the cup were divided into two groups with host Cameroon, Egypt, South Africa and Zimbabwe in group A and defending champion Nigeria, Mali, Ghana, Kenya in group B. Ghana defeated South Africa in the third-place match.

Africa Women Cup of Nations is organized by Confederation of African Football (CAF) every two years since 1998. Nigeria has won eight editions with the other two won by Equatorial Guinean. Endit
