Extra value for Madrid's Classico draw as oter title rivals slip up

Xinhua, December 4, 2016 Adjust font size:

Sergio Ramos scored a last minute header to give Real Madrid a share of the points and keep them six points ahead of FC Barcelona following the 'Classico' in Barca's Camp Nou Stadium on Saturday.

Madrid were the better side in the first half, but failed to take their chance and paid the price when Luis Suarez headed Barca into a 53rd minute lead.

The introduction of Andres Iniesta on the hour saw Barca play their best football of a tense, but at times scrappy game, but Neymar and Leo Messi missed good chances to add a second goal and it was Barca's to pay the price when Ramos headed home a 90th minute free kicks to ensure it ended honors even.

Sevilla wasted a great chance to close the gap at the top of the table as they lost 2-1 away to Granada, who had started the day bottom and without a win in 13 games.

Andres Pereira and Lomban gave Granada a deserved win with Sevilla's goal coming from the penalty spot with the last kick of the game.

Atletico Madrid also had a chance to close the gap at the top, but failed to break down the defense of an Espanyol side that has now not conceded a goal in five league games: almost 500 minutes of competitive football.

When Atletico had chances Espanyol keeper, Diego Lopez was on hand to make the save, while in the other end Jan Oblak stopped a one on one with Leo Baptistao.

Meanwhile Villarreal's poor run of form continued as a dull 0-0 draw away to Leganes prevented them from closing the gap on the top three and Fran Escriba's men have won just one of their last five league games. Endit
