Greek main opposition party leads in survey

Greece's main opposition New Democracy party leads the ruling SYRIZA in the latest opinion survey published late Thursday.

The conservative New Democracy would win 32 percent of the vote compared with 16 percent for the radical left SYRIZA, should elections were held this weekend, according to the poll conducted by Macedonia University for Skai TV.

The far-right Chryssi Avghi (Golden Dawn) party would retain the third position with 8 percent, followed by the Greek Communist party KKE with 6 percent and the Democratic Coalition with 5.5 percent.

The Central Union party and the newly founded anti-austerity Plefsi Eleftherias (Course of Freedom) party would also marginally manage to enter the next assembly by passing the 3 percent threshold.

The opinion polls released in recent months have been consistent.

According to the SKAI TV survey, 90 percent of the surveyed were dissatisfied with the government's performance.

About 64.5 percent of respondents believed that 2017 will be worse than 2016 for the national economy and their personal finances. Endi
