Electricity, gas and heating prices decrease expected for Slovakia in 2017

Xinhua, December 1, 2016 Adjust font size:

Prices of electricity, gas and heating will experience decreases in Slovakia as of January 2017 partly as a result of an inspection concerning end prices at distribution companies, regulators announced Wednesday.

The prices of electricity for households in Slovakia will go down by 4.3 percent on average as of January, while those of gas will drop by 2.6 percent and those of heat by 6 percent, according to the Slovak Office for the Regulation of Network Industries (URSO).

"Thanks to this physical property inspection, unparalleled in its extent in the EU, the creation of prices for 2017 can fully reflect the actual situation concerning the value of property of distribution companies," said URSO chairman Jozef Holjencik.

The reduction in prices in electricity has been announced despite growth in prices on commodity markets in recent months.

Meanwhile, the actual costs of distributing electricity for large industrial customers have been made more objective, with a fall in distribution prices by 16.44 percent for high voltage electricity and by 0.42 percent for very high voltage levels.

Conversely, the prices of potable water supplies and sewer charges should post a modest increase of 0.3 percent in 2017. Endit
