Nine out of ten Greeks pessimistic about future: poll

The overwhelming majority of Greek people remain pessimistic about the future and disappointed at the government's record, according to the results of the latest opinion poll released on Wednesday in Athens.

Some 88 percent of respondents in the survey conducted by polling firm Public Issue said that they believe Greece was heading to the wrong direction. By a similar percentage they dismissed the idea of a fourth bailout program.

The 92 percent of respondents in Public Issue's poll expressed disappointment at the Left-led government's policies, according to a statement posted on the firm's webpage.

Similar surveys carried out in recent months have given similar results.

Greeks seem divided over whether snap polls should be held soon. Some 53 percent of the people were against early elections, while 45 percent were in favor.

Asked to describe their feelings, some 28 percent of the respondents said they felt anger, 25 percent disappointment, 19 percent anxiety, 8 percent grief and only 5 percent hope and optimism.

The survey was conducted during the period of Nov. 18-25 with the participation of 1,005 voters throughout Greece. Endit
