Beijing starts construction of new airport expressway

Xinhua, November 30, 2016 Adjust font size:

Construction of Beijing's new airport expressway started in south Beijing's Daxing District Wednesday.

The project will cost 17.26 billion yuan (2.5 billion U.S. dollars) and take about 16 months to complete. The expressway is expected to open to traffic at the end of 2018 when it will link downtown Beijing with the new airport.

The 27 km expressway will start from the south fifth ring road, allowing for speeds of up to 120 km per hour.

The expressway will boost development of the airport economic zone, and promote Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei regional integration, said Zhang Yanduo with the construction administration department of Beijing BII Transportation Development, which manages the construction of the expressway.

Construction of the new airport, in the southern suburb of Daxing District, started at the end of 2014 and is expected to take five years. Endi
