Slovakia delays goal of posting balanced budget to 2019: minister

Xinhua, November 28, 2016 Adjust font size:

The Slovak government has delayed its goal of posting a balanced budget to 2019, Slovak Finance Minister Peter Kazimir said on Sunday.

Nevertheless, it has made it into the top five in the eurozone in terms of budget quality for 2017, the minister said.

"It isn't important whether we'll be praised by domestic analysts, the Budgetary Council and the Opposition, what matters is the fact that we've maintained our quality in the eurozone. Foreign investors have noticed this, as well as those investing in our government bonds," said Kazimir.

The finance minister noted that Slovakia has never posted a balanced budget.

"We have it within our reach now. We should be at the finish line in three years," stressed Kazimir. The Slovak Parliament is set to approve the state budget on 2017 on Tuesday. Enditem
