Four Ukrainians rescued from sinking boat off Greek coast

Xinhua, November 27, 2016 Adjust font size:

Four Ukrainian nationals were rescued from a sinking sailing boat off Sounion cape near Athens on Sunday, the Greek Coast Guard said.

The authorities said the boat encountered mechanical failure amid adverse weather conditions and hit rocks.

The incident occurred as a cold front hit Greece this weekend and heavy rainfall and strong winds also caused problems on land.

In the Attica region, the Fire Brigade received more than 200 telephone calls to intervene in order to rescue eight people from cars and house basements amid flash floods.

According to the Greek Meteorological Service, winds will reach up to 8 on the Beaufort scale around Wednesday in the Aegean Sea, and in northern Greece, the temperature will drop to minus 12 degrees Celsius. Endi
