Profile: Lao Prime Minister Thongloun Sisoulith

Lao Prime Minister Thongloun Sisoulith will pay an official visit to China from Nov. 28 to Dec. 1 at the invitation of Chinese Premier Li Keqiang.

Thongloun was born in the Houa Phan province of Laos on Nov. 10, 1945. He became Lao deputy foreign minister in 1987, and later served as Lao minister of labor and social welfare, and chairman of foreign affairs committee of the National Assembly.

From 2001 to 2006, Thongloun was Lao deputy prime minister and chairman of state planning committee. From 2006 to early 2016, Thongloun served as Lao deputy prime minister and foreign minister.

Thongloun was elected prime minister in April 2016. He paid an official visit to China in August 2011 when he was Lao deputy prime minister and foreign minister. Endi
