The following are news highlights in Zambia's major media outlets on Sunday.

-- Zambia's first president Kenneth Kaunda has described the death of Cuba's former President Fidel Castro as a loss of an iconic and great leader.

Kaunda, who is Castro's contemporary, said the death of the Cuban revolutionary was a terrible personal loss to him.

He described him as a freedom fighter who played a big role in Zambia and the entire southern African region. (Times of Zambia)

-- The Zambian government said it was working on modernizing correctional facilities in order to improve on the process of reformation of inmates.

Minister of Home Affairs Stephen Kampyongo said the government was concerned about the welfare of inmates because of the poor state of most correctional facilities, adding that inmates deserve to be in a conducive environment. (Zambia Daily Mail)

-- Zambian President Edgar Lungu is expected in Tanzania for a two-day official visit aimed at cementing bilateral ties between the two countries.

Ministry of Foreign Affairs Harry Kalaba said Lungu has been invited by his Tanzanian counterpart John Magufuli for the visit meant to strengthen bilateral economic and diplomatic relations.

During his visit, Lungu was expected to visit the Tanzania Zambia Railways (TAZARA) and the Tanzania Zambia Oil Pipeline, co-owned by the two governments. (Zambia Daily Mail) Endit
