Big offices account for nearly half of overall trade in Albania

Xinhua, November 26, 2016 Adjust font size:

Enterprises operating in Albania with 50 or more employees constituted one percent of active enterprises in 2015 but accounted for 46.2 percent of the total turnover of the nation, according to the Institute of Statistics (INSTAT) Friday.

Thus, according to the preliminary results of the structural survey of enterprises 2015, some 1,033 companies out of a total of around 104,000 businesses active in Albania realized 46.2 percent of turnover or 6.2 billion euros (6.57 U.S. dollars).

Meantime, according to statistics, 99 percent of businesses in Albania have less than 50 employees and companies with one to four employees making up 89.3 percent of all enterprises.

Data from the survey confirmed that the total number of employees in 2015 increased by 17.1 percent compared to 2014.

According to experts, the main problem of the Albania economy is not the fact that it is concentrated in a specific group of companies, but the fact that their number is small.

Investments conducted by businesses in 2015 amounted to 207 billion leks (1.62 billion U.S. dollars) from 183 billion leks in 2014, marking an increase of 13.5 percent. The number of enterprises increased by 22.7 percent compared to 2014. Enditem
