Bulgaria seizes nearly 111 kg marijuana at border with Romania

As much as 110.7 kg of marijuana were found near the Danube Bridge "Vidin - Calafat" in a joint action of Bulgarian and Romanian customs and police officers, officials said Friday.

The illicit drug, split into 158 packets, was hidden in a secret compartment in the cab of a truck carrying refrigerators from Bulgaria to Germany, the National Customs Agency (NCA) said in a press release.

The driver, a 26-year-old Bulgarian citizen, was arrested, the NCA said.

Bulgaria, a key transit route for drugs smuggled from Asia to Europe, seized at its borders 541 kg of marijuana in 2015. Endit
