Russian Federal Guard Service general detained over law violations: report

Xinhua, November 25, 2016 Adjust font size:

Russian Federal Guard Service (FSO) General Gennady Lopyrev was detained following an internal check, Russian media reported Friday.

The RIA Novosti news agency quoted an FSO statement as saying that an inspection of its units in the Caucasus has revealed "serious violations of the law," but it did not provide details.

The agency also quoted Lopyrev's lawyer Ruslan Zakalyuzhny as saying that official charges had been presented to his client, who did not admit his guilt.

Zakalyuzhny did not specify the charges.

The FSO is a federal executive body responsible for safeguarding presidential, governmental and other types of special communications and information provided to government agencies.

Earlier this month, Russian Economic Development Minister Alexey Ulyukayev was also detained over corruption involving a bribe of 2 million U.S. dollars. Endi
