Czech Defence Ministry sues man for wearing Nazi uniform

Xinhua, November 25, 2016 Adjust font size:

The Defence Ministry of the Czech Republic has sued a man for wearing a Nazi uniform at a remembrance event for war veterans earlier this month, Czech Defence Minister confirmed on his Twitter account on Thursday.

The Defence Ministry has filed a criminal complaint in connection with the man attending a commemorative event on Veterans' Day on November 11 in the town of Rakovnik.

SS (Schutzstaffel) symbols have no place at the Veterans' Day commemorations, Defence Minister Martin Stropnicky wrote.

The event was held to commemorate local residents who served in the British Royal Air Force during World War II. During the event, Jiri Svoboda, head of the Rakovnik Club of Military History, gave a speech at the event, while several men wearing uniforms served as honor guards nearby. One of the honor guards wore a German military uniform with symbols of the SS, a major paramilitary organization under Nazi Germany.

The man wearing Nazi uniform was criticised by Czech media after the event. Endit
