Chinese stocks closed mixed on Thursday as turnover shrank and the ChiNext Index declined for the second day.

The benchmark Shanghai Composite Index up 0.02 percent, at 3,241.74 points. The smaller Shenzhen Component Index closed 0.06 percent lower at 10,967.46 points. The ChiNext Index, China's NASDAQ-style board of growth enterprises, lost 0.88 percent to close at 2,146.63 points.

Total turnover on the two bourses was 634 billion yuan (about 92 billion U.S. dollars), a remarkable retreat from Wednesday's 680 billion yuan.

As the Shenzhen-HK Stock Connect gets closer to its launch, the securities sector posted a remarkable increase, with the Guangdong Golden Dragon Development Inc. jumping by the 10-percent daily limit to 24.38 yuan.

China's Shenzhen Stock Exchange on Wednesday announced a new round of tests for the imminent program to link the Shenzhen and Hong Kong exchanges.

Textile and apparel shares also performed strongly as the yuan weakened on Thursday to below 6.9 against the U.S. dollar. Endi
