Activities to honor Shakespeare, Tang Xianzu held in Laos

The Chinese Culture Center in Laos and the National University of Laos (NUOL) on Wednesday hold lecture and exhibition to mark the 400th anniversary of the deaths of Tang Xianzu and William Shakespeare, the two literary giants from China and Britian.
Speaking at the event with the participation of over 300 people, President of the NUOL Somsy Gnophanxay said these activities provide teachers and students the opportunity to study the world outstanding literature and drama works, as well as valuable experience for the protection and development of modern literature works.
Que Xiaohua, director of Chinese Culture Center in Laos, expressed the hope that these activities will promote the understanding of Lao people over Chinese traditional drama works and traditional cultural features, thus enhancing cultural exchanges and friendship between the Chinese and Lao peoples.
While giving the lecture titled "Shakespeare's Richard III in Chinese way", Chinese theater director Wang Xiaoying introduced his way of performing Shakespeare's Richard III with Chinese traditional drama.
After the lecture, teachers and students of the NUOL visited the exhibition themed "Dialogue Across Time and Space -- Homage to Tang Xianzu and William Shakespeare" with the display of photos, video, and multimedia, among others.
The Chinese Culture Center in Laos also plans to hold a series of activities including performance, lectures, seminars, and film screening to expand the dissemination of Tang Xianzu and Chinese drama. Endit
