Ukrainian Education Minister Liliya Grynevych on Tuesday thanked China for helping to develop education in Ukraine.
"We appreciate the Chinese Government and the Chinese people for giving us the assistance. We are grateful that particular importance in this support is paid to secondary education," Grynevych said during a ceremony to open a Chinese-donated language-learning complex at the Kiev Gymnasium of Oriental Languages.
Chinese Ambassador to Ukraine Du Wei said at the ceremony that China was pleased to offer a helping hand to Ukraine in improving the quality of its education.
"It is a pleasure for us to make a contribution to the development of Ukraine's education. What we have already done is a small part of much broader aid. I promise that we will continue this great initiative," Du said.
Over the past few months, Chinese authorities and private companies have made a series of contributions to projects focusing on education in Ukraine.
In August, the Chinese government handed over modern educational equipment worth about 273,000 U.S. dollars to the Ukrainian authorities to establish three linguistic classrooms at Kiev Gymnasium, where about 600 students are learning Chinese.
The move was followed by an initiative by Chinese technology giant Huawei to train 10 Ukrainian students who major in information and communications technology at Huawei's headquarters in the southern city of Shenzhen in China.
Furthermore, the Hong Kong-based Silk Road Chamber of International Commerce provided a grant of 200,000 U.S. dollars to Ukraine for the development of inclusive education. Endi
