Bulgaria seizes 21.55 kg of heroin at border with Serbia

Xinhua, November 23, 2016 Adjust font size:

Bulgarian customs at the Kalotina checkpoint near the country's border with Serbia seized 21.55 kg of heroin, officials said Wednesday.

The heroin, split into 43 packets, was hidden in a secret compartment of a Bulgarian-registered car traveling from Bulgaria to Western Europe, the National Customs Agency (NCA) said in a press release.

The driver of the vehicle was arrested.

Authorities estimated the value of the heroin on the black market would reach nearly 1.1 million U.S. dollars.

Bulgaria, a key transit route for drugs smuggled from Asia to Europe, seized 256 kg of heroin at its borders in 2015. Endit
