The cost of lower-priced food and cleaning products in Austria has seen a 3.6 percent year-on-year increase in September, new figures from the Chamber of Labour (AK) in Vienna have revealed on Tuesday.
The AK price monitor found the continued trend in increasing prices of across 40 such products, all the cheapest available in their respective categories.
The most notable were a 27 percent increase in dark bread and a 19 percent increase in the cost of butter.
AK consumer advocate Gabriele Zgubic said in a press release that the overall living cost creates a tight financial situation for many people, for whom the cost of such necessities becomes very important.
She further noted that the costs of goods at regular supermarkets is on average 11 percent higher than those in so-called "discounter" supermarkets such as Hofer and Lidl. Endit
