Austria well-prepared against possible terror attack: army official

Austria is presently well-prepared against a potential domestic terror attack, leader of the armed forces counter-intelligence service Rudolf Striedinger said on Tuesday.

Austria Press Agency quoted Striedinger as saying that elite special forces personnel are presently situated in a ring around the national capital of Vienna and can act in a rapid-response fashion, should the need arise.

Such anti-terror measures are also at present a high priority for the armed forces, with cooperation with the police. The military is allowed to function in a supportive role in the event of a larger-scale attack.

Striedinger further stated the armed forces is presently well-placed overall.
