Xinhua, November 23, 2016 Adjust font size:

A drilling rig in the Norwegian Sea reported fire in an engine room on Tuesday and all the 106 personnel on board have been accounted for, Norwegian oil and gas company Statoil said.

The fire was reported at 5:30 p.m. (1630 GMT) on board the drilling rig Scarabeo 5, which is located at the Njord field in the Norwegian Sea, Statoil said in a statement.

Fire extinguishing is being carried out on the rig, while the public rescue services and the authorities have been notified of the situation, the company said.

Statoil's emergency preparedness organization has been mobilized and resources are being assembled to handle the incident.

Personnel without emergency duties have been mustered to the lifeboat stations and preparations are being made to evacuate them by helicopter.

No drilling operations were underway at the time of the incident and there are no other installations on the Njord field at the present time, according to the statement. Endit
