Unemployment in Slovakia decreases nearly 2 percentage points year-on-year

The unemployment rate in Slovakia in October stood at 9.08 percent, down by 0.34 percentage points month-on-month and by 1.9 percentage points year-on-year.

The number of jobseekers available for work in October reached almost 247,000, down by almost 50,000 on the year, director of Slovak Labor, Social Affairs and the Family Centre Marian Valentovic reported on Monday.

When people who weren't able to take up jobs immediately were also included, the unemployment rate in October stood at 10.50 percent, down by 0.33 percentage points month-on-month and by 2.26 percentage points year-on-year.

The unemployment rates in all eight regions fell in October, most significantly in Trnava region in the Western Slovakia by 0.44 percentage points.

"The highest unemployment has remained in the eastern Slovakia, in the Presov region with jobless rate (14.18 percent). In terms of districts, unemployment dropped in 75, rose in three and remained flat in one district," stressed Valentovic.

Rimavska Sobota district in Cnetral Slovakia was the worst off on 25.26 percent, while Galanta district in the Western Slovakia was at the opposite end of the scale on 3.66 percent. Endit
