A small plane crashed into a home south of San Francisco on Friday, killing one person.

San Mateo County Fire Department said it received a report at 11:18 a.m. local time that a plane went down near the Half Moon Bay Airport, about 25 miles (40 km) south of San Francisco on the U.S. west coast.

Fire crews responded to the scene at the edge of a residential neighborhood near the airport.

While details were sketchy about the plane and people aboard or on the ground, authorities said one person was dead.

As a coastal city of 6.4 square miles, or 17 square kilometers, Half Moon Bay is part of San Mateo County in northern California, with local industries including agriculture, fishing and tourism. Endit
