Belarus resumes diplomatic presence in Sweden

Xinhua, November 19, 2016 Adjust font size:

Belarus has resumed its diplomatic presence in Sweden, Belarusian Foreign Minister Vladimir Makei said on Friday while meeting with Swedish Ambassador to Belarus Martin Oberg.

The parties also discussed prospects for development of cooperation between Belarus and Sweden, relations between Belarus and the European Union as well as topical issues of regional agenda.

Belarusian Foreign Ministry informed that on Nov. 16 a Belarusian diplomat arrived in Stockholm and took up his duties as Chargé d'affaires of the Republic of Belarus in Sweden.

The diplomatic tensions between Sweden and Belarus with the closure of the embassies of the two countries started in July 2012 when one small-engine civilian airplane piloted by nationals of Sweden crossed the airspace of Belarus and scattered over the capital teddy bears with calls for freedom of the press in Belarus.
