IMF urges more efforts from Ukraine's for fresh aid

Xinhua, November 19, 2016 Adjust font size:

The mission of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) that recently concluded its work in Ukraine said on Friday that the East European country should intensify its efforts in implementing requirements needed for obtaining fresh aid.

"While good progress has been made, the authorities need some more time to implement policies to ensure medium-term fiscal sustainability, including the adoption of the 2017 budget consistent with program targets, safeguard financial stability, and tackle corruption," the mission said in a press release.

The fund has also called on Ukraine to focus on reforming its sector of state-owned enterprises, pension and tax systems and administrative area.

Besides, the Ukrainian authorities should do more for improving the country's business environment, the fund said.

The IMF mission worked in Kiev between Nov. 3 and Nov. 17 to assess the Ukrainian government' s progress in implementing reforms under the Extended Fund Facility (EFF) program.

Last month, Valeria Gontareva, the governor of Ukraine' s central bank said Kiev was counting to secure a fourth tranche from the IMF's 17.5-billion-U.S.-dollar bailout program once the mission completes it visit.

Since 2015, Ukraine received a total of 7.7 billion dollars from the global lender in three disbursements of bailout funds under the EFF program. Endit
