Eurozone construction production down by 0.9 pct in September

Seasonally adjusted production in the construction sector fell by 0.9 percent in the eurozone and by 0.3 percent in the 28-nation European Union (EU) in September, compared with the previous month, the EU statistics office Eurostat said Thursday.

The shrinking in the euro area is due to building construction falling by 1.1 percent, while civil engineering rose by 0.4 percent.

In the EU, the monthly decrease is due to building construction falling by 0.7 percent, while civil engineering rose by 1.8 percent.

On a year-on-year basis, production in construction rose by 1.8 percent in the euro area, while it fell by 0.2 percent in the EU.

Among EU member states, the highest monthly decreases in production in construction were observed in Italy, Slovakia and Portugal, and the highest increases in Slovenia, Poland and Sweden. Endit
