The number of employed people in Germany rose modestly in the third quarter of 2016, but with slower growth rate than the first two quarters of the year, official data showed on Thursday.
The number of employed people amounted to 43.7 million between July and September, a year-on-year increase of 0.9 percent, German federal statistics office Destatis reported.
"Although employment increased year on year in the summer months, it did so at a slower pace than in the first two quarters of 2016," the report said.
The year-on-year growth rates had been 1.3 percent in the first quarter and 1.2 percent in the second quarter.
According to Destatis, the rise in the total number of employment in the third quarter than the same period last year was mainly due to the growth in the service sector.
The largest absolute employment gains were recorded for public services, education and health, followed by business services and trade, transport, accommodation and food services. Endit
