Leading ICT provider Huawei highlighted the importance of partners to build smart cities on Tuesday on the occasion of the Smart City Expo World Congress (SCEWC), which is being held here this week.
"We think that smart city is a very complicated system and one company cannot do all the jobs by itself," president of Industry Marketing and Solution Department at Huawei, Victor Yu, told Xinhua, pointing out that it needs the collaboration of leading and local partners.
Huawei sees the city as a creature that has a brain and a nervous system (such as devices and sensors). The brain would be the IOC or Intelligent Operation Centre, which "needs to have operational systems, like the IOT from the technology perspective," he said.
"By doing so, the city becomes a living being," Yu emphasized.
"Our vision is that we need to build a platform that can deal with all the basic technologies and then, apart from the platform, we all have to build up the ecosystems that imply different players such as software players, hardware players, system integrators" he explained, adding that "we can work together to help the city build up the systems."
Firms such as ESRI, iSoftStone and VEOLIA explained their solutions to this effect on Tuesday.
David Jonglez, manager Business Development Smart Communities at ESRI Europe, told Xinhua that "we have cooperation with Huawei on different layers of devices."
Its Geographic Information System (GIS) is about "collaboration, engaging communities and citizens into our platform to make them share some information and data but also sharing applications from all of what we can imagine, it could be watering, it could be energy consumption," he said.
Huawei cooperates with more than 400 global partners and the company's Smart City solutions have been deployed in diverse areas in more than 100 cities across 40 countries. Some examples are Kenya Distant Healthcare, Amsterdam Arena and Longgang Smart City. Endit
