The following are news highlights in Zambia's major media outlets on Monday.

-- Zambian President Edgar Lungu led diplomats accredited to Zambia, war veterans and government officials in laying wreaths at the national cenotaph in Lusaka, the country's capital, to commemorate Remembrance Day.

This was in honor of men and women who died during the First World War (1914-1918) and Second World War from 1939-1945.(Zambia Daily Mail)

--Zambia's Finance Minister Felix Mutati said 2016 has been a difficult year for the country characterized by a deficit in trade, power and fiscal outlook.

He said in remarks delivered during a post-budget analysis that fiscal discipline was the hardest one because the cost of business was high while credit in the banking sector was low. (Daily Nation)

-- Chinese President Xi Jinping has expressed optimism that Zambia will witness great development under the leadership of President Edgar Lungu.

The Chinese president said in a letter to Lungu to congratulate him on his 60th birthday, which was on Saturday, that the Zambian leader's re-election during the August 11 polls has ushered in a new stage for the country's development and construction. President Xi said he attaches great importance to the development of China-Zambia relations and that he is willing to work with his Zambian counterpart to bring the relations to a new high.(Zambia Daily Mail).
