Ghana allows live broadcast at collation center for December election

Xinhua, November 11, 2016 Adjust font size:

Television cameras will be allowed to provide live coverage inside the collation center at the headquarters of Ghana's Electoral Commission (EC) for the first time, local media quoted EC chairperson Charlotte Osei as saying on Thursday.

Osei, who was addressing the Editor's Forum in Accra, said the move would ensure utmost transparency in the December 7 presidential and parliamentary elections.

She reiterated that it was impossible for the EC chair, working with all the other commissioners, to change poll results.

Ghana's main opposition New Patriotic Party, has voiced fears that the EC is hands in glove with the ruling National Democratic Congress to rig the polls in favor of President John Mahama, which the EC has repeatedly dismissed. Endit
