The Indonesian police have arrested five people responsible for a violent protest last week in Jakarta, which left one dead and dozens others injured, police said on Tuesday.
Jakarta Police spokesman Awi Setiyono said the police had got evidence and data on the violence at the end of the rally against Jakarta Governor Basuki Tjahja Purnama over his alleged blasphemy comment on the Koran.
"We have owned sufficient initial evidences to declare the five suspects and made arrests," he said at the Jakarta police headquarters.
The evidence includes video and photos among others which will be showed at a court session, the spokesman said.
Setiyono said the five university students of the Muslim Student Association (HMI) were accused of engaging in attacks against policemen.
"We have arrested five alleged perpetrators of violence against police officers," he said.
Dozens of policemen were wounded after protesters attacked them at the end of the demonstration on Friday, according to police spokesman Gen. Tito Karnavian. Endit
