The following are news highlights in leading Nigerian media outlets on Friday.

-- President Muhammadu Buhari on Thursday revealed he had come close to relinquishing power.

"Actually, I felt like absconding because 27 out of 36 states in Nigeria could not pay salaries and we knew they had no other sources," he said at a meeting in Abuja. (The Guardian)

-- The Nigerian government on Thursday said the country was saving 4.5 million U.S. dollars daily from the deregulation of petroleum products.

Minister of State for Budget and National Planning Zainab Ahmed, who disclosed this to journalists, said the deregulation of Premium Motor Spirit is part of the critical measures introduced by the Presidency to aid economic recovery and guarantee diversification. (Vanguard)
