Liaoning convenes legislative session after election fraud

Xinhua, November 2, 2016 Adjust font size:

A legislative session of northeast China's Liaoning Province was convened Tuesday, the first time after a massive election fraud.

At the seventh session of the 12th Liaoning Provincial People's Congress, 31 members of the Standing Committee of the congress were elected, and 84 members of special committees were approved.

In September, 38 among a total number of 62 members of the congress' Standing Committee were disqualified due to election fraud and ceased to serve on the committee.

The electoral bribery in Liaoning was the first of its kind to take place at provincial level.

The newly-elected members pledged allegiance to the constitution.

According to a statement from the congress, newly-elected cadres shall treasure the power entrusted by the people and draw lessons from the consequences brought by the election fraud. They shall obey the discipline of the Communist Party of China and the law. They shall exercise their power according to law, and carry out their responsibilities.

Congress members should take actions to clean up the bad influence of the election fraud, and work to build a healthy political environment, the statement said. Endi
