Ukraine's car sales surge

Xinhua, November 2, 2016 Adjust font size:

Ukraine's passenger car sales rose about 40 percent year-on-year in January through October 2016, reflecting an overall economic rebound in the country, an industry data showed Tuesday.

In the first ten months of the current year, a total of 50,233 new vehicles were registered in Ukraine, compared with 35,983 units in the same period a year ago, the Ukravtoprom Analysis Group said in a report.

Japanese carmaker Toyota continued to be the most popular choice in Ukraine this year with a market share of 11.9 percent, followed by France' s Renault and Germany' s Volkswagen, taking a share of 9.6 percent and 7.9 percent respectively.

Ukraine' s car sales returned to growth in January 2016 after more than two years of free falling sales, which was triggered by the financial crisis and high inflation.

Ukraine' s economy grew 1.4 percent in the second quarter of 2016, after rising 0.1 percent in the first quarter, while inflation has slowed to 6.4 percent in September this year from 43.3 percent at the end of 2015.

Between January 2014 and December 2015, Ukraine' s passenger car market saw a two-thirds drop in sales. Endi
