Japan's industrial production stalls in September

Japan's industrial output stalled in September as private consumption and overseas demeaned remains pressured, data from the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry showed on Monday.

The index of output at factories and mines stood at 97.8 against the base of 100 in 2010, the trade ministry said in a preliminary report, with the figures translating to an unchanged 1.3 percent increase from the previous month.

The ministry said that of the manufacturers it polled expectations are now for a 1.1 percent increase in October followed by a 2.1 percent rise in November.

Separately, the ministry also said that retail sales slumped in the same recording period, falling 1.9 percent from a year earlier and at a bigger margin that median market expectations. Endit
